Update on the massacre of Amharas by Oromia Special Forces (OSF), Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) and Qeerro in Kiremu Woreda (East Wollega Zone, Oromia Region)
The Amhara Association of America (AAA) has confirmed from sources that, starting from November 29, 2022, the Oromia Special Force (OSF), the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) and the local Qeerro commenced a new attack on Amharas civilians in Haro Kebele (ward) and Kiremu town in Kiremu Woreda (district) [East Wollega Zone, Oromia Region, Ethiopia]. The attack is ongoing and at the time of this update, at least 27 Amhara civilians have been killed, an additional 17 have sustained serious injuries and 64 civilians were abducted.
Summary of the latest massacre
Between November 18 and 20, 2022, the OSF in collaboration with OLA militants and local Qeerro opened an attack on Amharas living in Kiremu Woreda (East Wollega Zone) resulting in killing of and injury to Amhara civilians as well as looting of their property.1 In addition to killing and bodily injury, the perpetrators also abducted more than 64 Amhara civilian from Haro Kebele and Kiremu town of the Kiremu Woreda.
Following the initial incident, relatives of the abducted individuals have been asking the Kiremu Woreda administration for weeks on the whereabouts and for the release of their abducted families. However, to the dismay of the families and residents of Kiremu town, the Woreda Administrator, Mr. Fekadu Hundo, ordered for the deployment of additional OSF units and local Qeerro to kill Amhara civilians in the area again on November 29th, 2022.
This was followed by an immediate attack by the OSF and local Qeerro youth targeting Amhara civilians in Kiremu town and in Haro Kebele. This attack started in the early morning at 7:00 a.m. local time. And 3 hours later, at around 10:00 a.m., the OLA joined the attack by OSF and Qeerro against Amhara civilians. The OLA militants commenced the attack from the side of the Liben River towards Haro Kebele.
